2021 in review: a look back at the performance of Italy’s real estate market and future trends

Italy has confirmed its place on investors’ radars in 2021, with investment volumes recording double-digit growth. We expect that this trend will persist in 2022 with total investment volumes reaching more than €10 bn across all sectors of the real estate market.
Total volumes in Italy reached around €9.8 billion in 2021, up by 19% YoY and in line with the last 5 years average. The number of transactions was substantial, highlighting the positive market outlook. Commercial real estate investment volumes recorded a sharp increase during 2021, largely driven by the logistics and offices sectors. Meanwhile, living, alternatives and healthcare asset classes remain integral to most investment strategies.
